@kmpeter my exact sentiments. I have learnt money & friendship are poor bedfellows. Like Njeeri if i lend i prefer to think of it as giving it away because hustling for it will cause enemity more often than not. you correctly said you have learnt your lesson. Only give what you can afford to loose.

a point to live by is not to make other people's emergencies ur own. put in a qstn to the guy as to when he will pay, but be very cautious about money especially with friends. u will lose them when u lend them or u will lose the friends if u do not lend them. u can avoid this by getting someone else to lend them on ur behalf

@Themneks oh sorry,i also bailed someone 2 years back and all he does is to make unfulfilled promises.

All the same just be good but a bit cautious. As the first lady said, genuine people will suffer.

I normally give, then in my heart write it off as bad debts..so my dear, since you have not asked for him to pay back, ask him to do so. so that u know whether he is capable of paying back or not. The best thing you do, before giving out money esp a large sum you need to spelt out terms and conditions and write it down somewhere maybe in the presence of a third party..if that is too much then dont give out your money. however genuine people who maybe desparately in need may suffer.
